I hope everyone has made it through and is on the road to recovery after Hurricane Sandy. If you need at little distraction here are two great polls to vote in:
1.) First Book is one of my all time favorite nonprofits. To celebrate 10 years of giving books to at-risk kids, you can vote for which book will me the millionth book they give away. I chose A Wrinkle in Time, but it was a hard pick.
2.) It is time to vote in the Goodreads Choice Awards. There are 20 categories where you get to pick your favorite books of the year. There are three rounds of voting, and the first one just opened.
Hope you enjoy these opportunities to declare your favorites. Let me know what you think about the options and your votes in the comment below. Also, happy Friday!
I’m glad you mentioned the goodreads choice awards. I voted the other day and it made me feel completely out of touch with the books that have come out this year. I recognized only a handful of books and was surprised not to see more big name authors. How do they come up with the first nominees?
Yeah, I felt the same way. Basically they have some kind of formula to pick the top 15 books in each category based on number of times rated on goodreads and the average rating. Until November 10 you have the option of writing in a book (if you scroll down to the bottom of the page you’ll see this, I missed it the first time) They will take the to 5 write in books for each category. Thanks for asking because I wouldn’t have looked this up if you didn’t. Even if you’ve already voted, you do have the option of changing your vote and putting in a write in option!
Thanks for the info. I guess I’m the reader who is a year behind the “big” books of the year. 🙂
Oh my gosh, me too. I made a list of books I read that were published this year and it was under 10 books. Oh well.
