I’m excited to be doing another top ten tuesday, a weekly book meme from The Broke and the Bookish. This week we are sharing our favorite sequels. I’m a huge fan of series so this one was hard. I know I’m totally cheating by choosing all of the Harry Potter sequels, but trying to narrow them down was giving me a panic attack. Do you prefer sequels or stand-alone books? What is your favorite series? Let me know in the comments!
I need to get something blue i have the first one but havent read it yet. Here is my list: http://caitstruelife.wordpress.com/2013/09/24/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-best-sequels-ever/
I really loved both books, but Something Blue was my favorite of the two. Thanks for commenting! You have a fantastic list as well!
Thank you! I hope to get to reading them next year. They feel like spring books it me.
Oh nice! Dicey’s Song and a Laura Ingalls Wilder. That’s a nice mix you have on this list!
Thanks … yeah I hope I read somewhat broadly (anything that isn’t too scary). I read Dicey’s song over and over and over again in the 8th grade, and actually still enjoy it.
I agree the Harry Potter sequels are brilliant! The Prisoner of Azkaban was my favourite!
I couldn’t pick a favorite last night … I kind of narrowed it down to Goblet of Fire or Half Blood Prince, but then I felt terrible. I like them all (except maybe 5 which I obviously liked but not quite as much).
I can’t believe I left off Shadow of Night! It was an epic sequel!
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Great list. Even though I prefer stand-alones in books, I definitely raise a paw for Dicey’s Song. Loved Homecoming.
Yeah, one thing I loved about those books is that I think they both worked as stand alone novels even though they were with the same character.
Great list! Shadow of Night was a great sequel.
I know! I liked it even more than the first one!
Did you hear third book has a name? THE BOOK OF LIFE. Can’t wait!
That is so cool. I wonder if time travel will be involved again. I think that was my favorite.
must give a few of these a try–particularly Jo’s Boys
Yes this is tied with An Old Fashioned Girl for my favorite Alcott novel!
I can’t believe I forgot Shadow of Night – that was such a great follow-up. Can’t wait for the next in the series!

I know I’m so excited!
Oh, I’ve never read Jo’s Boys. Now I’m really curious… Great list!
I love that book. Have you read Little Men? You kind of need to have read both Little Women and Little Men to understand everything that goes on.
Although Little Women will always have a special place in my heart – Jo’s Boys is really the best.
Oh my gosh. I can’t believe I just heard you (read you?) say that. I’ll admit that Little Women is probably a better book, but Jo’s Boys is so juicy! It’s definitely the one I read over and over again most.
My favorite nontrilogy series are Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, Harry Potter, Juliet Marillier’s Sevenwaters series (which started off as a trilogy but was extended), and Sharon Shinn’s Twelve Houses series and her new Royal Blessings series.
Lots of fun series to add to my TBR list. Thanks for commenting!
The only two I’ve read out of this list are “Something Blue” and “Lola and the Boy Next Door” – both were awesome. I don’t know tho – I think I may have loved the first ones more but these were definitely close seconds.
In a lot of cases (much like movies) I prefer stand alones but sometimes I do love a good sequel, trilogy, etc. (ie: The Hunger Games and Divergent). I’d say that my favorite sequel as of late, was the sequel to Shatter Me, “Unravel Me.” As a *wait for it* Team Warner fan (as of the second book, not the first!) I absolutely LOVED the sequel and cannot wait for the third.
Oh man, I just looked up Shatter Me and added it to my Amazon wish list. That looks good.
It’s SO good. The author is super active on Twitter too! Maybe not as much anymore as she’s gotten so huge but one of the highlights of reading Shatter Me was that she was online as I devoured it in the middle of the night and she was tweeting with me as I reacted to chapters and then the ending. It made it that much more amazing.
