Not only is today November first (happy All Saints Day and Rabbit Rabbit), but it is a day of two exciting firsts for me. Today is the first day of my first NaNoWriMo. And to commemorate the occasion, and cross another big goal off my list, I decided to make my first vlog post about the challenge.
Ever since becoming addicted to John and Hank Green on the Vlogbrothers, I’ve been curious about making a vlogpost. Finding atuthor, Betsy Cornwell’s youtube channel, also inspired me to add this to my goal list. Where it sat uncrossed off for months, because every time I tried making a vlogpost, I got nervous and tongue-tied.
Anyways, enough stalling. Here is my vlog post where I will explain more about the NaNoWriMo challenge, why I’m doing it, and what I’m worried about. I do sound a little nervous and tongue-tied, but honestly for a girl who literally used cue cards to record my voice mail message I think it’s a pretty good start.
So yeah, I’m hoping to check back in on youtube a few times this month, to update you about how I’m doing in this challenge. I think it will be a good test case to see if you all and I (we’re both in this blog together) think vlogging would be a good addition to Hardcovers & Heroines, or if I should stick with writing and images.
For the time being, I’m going to stop stalling and go start my sequel to Dream Voyages. If anyone has any NaNoWriMo tips, please send them my way. I have a feeling I’m going to need all the help I can get.If you are also participating in the crazy challenge and want a buddy, you can search me as Alison Doherty and we can cheer each other on!
Also, if you’re participating or just interested in writing here is a link to a guest post I wrote for Bear & Black Dog Editing’s blog about the pros and cons of developing a writing routine.
***Sorry the video is so blurry. It looks clear when I put it together in iMovie. If anyone has tips for this, I would be so grateful. As I said, hopefully I will get better at this.***
You sure do have a lot on your plate this month – my only advice is to have fun.
Thanks! We’ll see how it goes. They are all fun things. As I said in my video, these are all great problems to have.
Great job on the video, especially since it’s your first! Good luck with NANOWriMO and your test. The Big Sur conference is fabulous.
Thanks Katy! Have you been to the Big Sur conference before? I’m so excited to go.
Hey, Alison, how goes the writing? Yes, I was at Big Sur in March 2012. Polish up whatever you want feedback on. Good writers. Of course, great faculty and lots of info. Loved the small group work. BTW, I’m on the board of the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference and we’d love to have you join us next summer. We’ve got a YA slot this year with Malin Alegria as faculty. She’s terrific, lots of fun, great teacher. Scholarships, writing prizes…Check us out. http://www.mcwc.org.
Cheers!
Cool. I will definitely check the conference out. Thanks for letting me know!
A pleasure. Let me know if you have any questions about our conference. Same to all of your reader/writers here who might be interested.
Thanks, Katy. Will do.
Good luck with the continuing blog posts. I’m scared to do video posts myself, but you were fabulous!
Thank you! We’ll see if I keep doing it long term. It was a lot of fun to make.
Wow, you are a natural! thanks for venturing into this terrifying territory! I appreciate your courage and flair in the face of fear. Can one say “Bravo!” to an author?
I’ll take a Bravo, although you are much too kind.
Congratulations on the vlog and starting your first NaNoWriMo. It was a great video. No one would ever know it was your first.
Thank you!
Good luck with your novel! I just friended you on nanowrimo as I’m participating this year also!
Hi Jen! I will add you as a friend tonight. Good luck to you as well!
