Marry, Date or Dump: The Outsiders

The_Outsiders_bookYesterday, I reviewed the Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell. In book, two of the characters read The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton. It was one of my favorite parts of the book, and it got me thinking about all the great marry, date, or dump potential a book with so many boys has. It’s been a while since I’ve read this one, so I’m going to give you the three Curtis brothers as my options for the game. As always, feel free to sub in any additional characters from the book. If your tastes run more towards Dallas, Two-Bit, or Johnny then go for it! I definitely want to reread this book soon. It is one of my mother’s all-time favorites and the names are fantastic. Until I do get my hands on it again, I will have to be content to read your answers in the comments section below. Thanks!

  1. So many thoughts… first, I would definitely date Soda-Pop you would have a great time. He is very loyal and who can resist a young Rob Lowe. Now comes the real dilemma. Daryl is the “best” husband material of all time- loyal, hardworking, family first , and any other adjective you can think of. However, would he be emotionally available in a way that speaks to my love language – I don’t think so. On the other had would Ponyboy be anything but emotionally available – would he be too needy? I don’t know. I may have to re-read the book before I can answer. I am debating because both are excellent choices just for opposite reason and both are certainly swoon worthy

On a separate note a woman in my book club said she told her husband on their first date that he had to live up to Ponyboy Curtis who really had her heart. He is a naval engineer so my guess is nothing like Ponyboy but who knows?

  2. Oh man.

I am going strictly based on who I had the biggest crush on when I first read this book in high school:

    Date: Ponyboy
    Marry: Soda Pop
    Dump: Darry

And now I want to go re-read The Outsiders. Hmmph. 😉
