Does anyone else feel like there are YA and MG adaptations of Cinderella everywhere they look? Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not complaining about it either way. I love reading them. The first book that made me love reading was a Cinderella adaptation (Ella Enchanted) and one of the first things I wrote was a play based on Cinderella for my 4th grade class to perform. In honor of the plethora of Cinderella stories, I’m giving you three Cinderella’s to marry, date or dump. My choices are Ella from Ella Enchanted, by Gail Carson Levine, Ash from Ash, by Malinda Lo, and Cinder from Cinder, by Marissa Meyer. All three Cinderella characters transcend the traditional princess, fairy tale role. I’m excited to see who you choose!
Also, I’d love to know in the comments if you have other Cinderella retellings, or other adaptations of fairy tales you recommend. Here is a trailer for a steampunk Cinderella adaptation coming out in Fall 2014. It’s by one of my favorite new authors, Betsy Cornwell, so I’m pretty excited about it!
Marry Ella- Date Cinder- Dump Ash
I didn’t read Ash so I can’t speak for that book. I loved Ella Enchanted, so I’m partial to that character. She’s the marrying kind. Cinder was cool, so she’s date worthy.
Hey, thanks for sharing the trailer!! My vote is definitely to marry Ella Enchanted, and I’d date Ash for sure, but I haven’t read Cinder yet so…can I polygamously also marry Ever After? 🙂
The trailer is awesome. I’m super excited to read the book. And polygamy is always allowed in Marry Date or Dump, so go right ahead!
