I think this week has been my hardest top ten tuesday yet. I was not an early reader. I was a very very very late reader, not really achieving any proficiency until 4th grade. But once I got it my reading skills progressed really quickly. Since then large portions of my time and identity have been vested in reading. These are the books that helped me make this change. Sorry to the one’s I left off. This has seriously felt like a bit of a Sophie’s Choice for me.
What gateway books got you interested in reading? What books would you recommend to a child or teenager that said they didn’t like to read?
Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme.

I cannot tell you how happy I am to see A Wrinkle in Time pop up again and again on people’s lists. 🙂 I loved The Last Silk Dress when I read it. 🙂
I know. I love seeing that book on so many people’s list. It really is one of the greats in my opinion. Thanks for commenting!
So happy to see Ella Enchanted! I was in love with all of Gail’s books when I was little. =)
I was too, but Ella Enchanted was always my favorite!
Ella Enchanted!! Loved that book, I can’t believe I forgot about it for this TTT! <333
I know. Of all the books I’ve read I think that one had the most impact on me. I basically hated reading until I found that story.
Some of my favorite children’s books are on your list. 🙂
I’m glad I’m not the only one who read and loved these books. Thanks for commenting!
These books are fantastic. I loved Ballet Shoes and A Wrinkle in Time.
I’m glad to hear someone else liking Ballet Shoes. That was one of my all time favorites, but so many people have never heard of them!
Great picks. The only book I recognize is Harry Potter =)
Here’s our TTT

Thanks for commenting! Harry Potter really is the universal bringer together in the book world.
I knew Harry was going to be on these lists, but it’s really nice to see A Wrinkle in Time on many of them too. One of my favorites and also on my list.
Yeah, I think A Wrinkle in Time is the book that everyone loves but people don’t talk about that much. Can you even imagine what a Wrinkle in Time fandom would look like? Thanks for commenting! Can’t wait to check out your list.
