Have you ever wondered which literary characters you would invite to a dinner party if you could? I hadn’t until this week, but these are the top ten characters I think I would invite to mine. Let me know who you would invite to your party and who you would want to sit between at mine in the comments!
Thank you to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme.
Ohh there are some really amazing characters on this list. I’d love to talk to A, Dumbledoor, Bridget and Gatsby. That would be highly entertaining.
Here is my list this week if you’d like to see what I picked ๐
Must Love Books
Thanks for commenting and sharing your list! I do think it would be interesting to see who A showed up as.
I feel like this would be a really amazing dinner party. Even better, can we make it a progressive party? I’d love cocktails at Bridget’s, the feat at Hogwarts, and the after party at Gatsby’s. ๐
I am 100% on board with making it a progressive. Maybe we can finish the night off with breakfast at Tiffany’s?
Dumbledore at a dinner party would be amazing! Gatsby would be great too–though to be honest I’d rather go to a dinner party he’s throwing. ๐
Yeah, maybe I conflated his awesomeness as a host with how I think he would be as a guest. He would probably lose all his coolness and just be a scheming, nervous wreck.
haha I Love Emily’s comment, I am so on board! Also, invite the whole Darcy clan, just think of the dinner table entertainment! ๐
Yes! I was really sad that Darcy didn’t end up making the list. It would be fun to have them come and judge everyone else.
Great list this week! I’ve never really thought about what literary characters I’d invite to a dinner party. Bridget Jones and Jo March would be incredibly fun though!
I wonder if Jo and Bridget would get along? Thanks for commenting!
I was with you until you named Jay Gatsby. Why? He held huge parties and then wouldn’t even interact with his guests. I don’t think he would be a good dinner guest.
I didn’t think about that at all, but now I am totally on board with you. Even though I do wish I could chat with him at some point, because he is such an interesting character.
I love this concept! God, Jo was seriously the best (even if I don’t understand why she didn’t end up with Laurie. Amy?! Seriously?? WHYYYY???), and Lizzie Bennet is the perfect girl for a party! And Dumbledore…ahahaha god I can only imagine how weird things would get with him as a dinner guest!
I think my first question to Jo would be about how she botched up the whole Laurie situation. It is so crazy! What was Louisa May Alcott thinking?!?!
I would invite Cath from Fangirl and Flynn Rider from Tangled and sit between them! Great topic/picks this week! =)
Fun invites. Cath is one of my favorite characters. I just didn’t think she would like going to such a big party. Although perhaps if I invited Baz and Simon Snow, she would be more interested.
Bridget wouldn’t eat much! ๐
Here’s my list of Miserable, Unhappy Characters.
Haha! Can’t wait to take a look at your list.
Oh great topic! I love the image of Jo March and Lizzy Bennett hanging out together. Jay Gatsby and Dumbledore would be fantastic guests as well!
Yes! I think Jo and Lizzy would have been great friends. Thanks for commenting!
I love this idea! How about a party where everyone comes as their favorite literary character? Dumbledore and Liz Bennett are on the top of my list, and I would include as mentioned above, Mr. Darcy… but also d’Artagnan of the Musketeers (sigh…) and every party needs a brilliant social misfit like Sherlock Holmes. I’m having fun thinking about this party – Thanks Alison!!
Thank you Patrice! I should have thought of Sherlock Holmes! I definitely would want to invite him. Such a good idea!
oh my gosh yes, Bridget would be so fun to have at a dinner party! Laughs for sure.
I know. She is such a fun character. I feel like at least with her there I could count on her being the more awkward and embarrassing one and then I would be off the hook.
I would love to have a dinner party with Dumbledore and Jo March that would be awesome. ๐ This is a nice topic.

Thank you. I wonder if Dumbledore and Jo would get along…
I want to go to this dinner party! (And can I sit next to Tyrion?) I’d also like to see who you seat next to whom. Now that’s a challenge!
You can definitely sit next to Tyrion. I think I would be deciding between sitting with Jo March and Elizabeth Bennet, although then it wouldn’t be boy, girl, boy, girl.
this list is fantastic! i agree with all but the two I haven’t read ๐
Thank you!
Love this! I would definitely love to party with Holly Golightly and Jay Gatsby and sit between them. Two of my favourite books (and movies) so there was no question there.
Awesome post.
That would definitely be the fun corner of the table at my party. Those are two of my favorite books and movie adaptations too!
