Top Ten Characters Who I Want to Invite to a Dinner Party

toptentuesday

Have you ever wondered which literary characters you would invite to a dinner party if you could? I hadn’t until this week, but these are the top ten characters I think I would invite to mine. Let me know who you would invite to your party and who you would want to sit between at mine in the comments!

Thank you to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme.

  1. I feel like this would be a really amazing dinner party. Even better, can we make it a progressive party? I’d love cocktails at Bridget’s, the feat at Hogwarts, and the after party at Gatsby’s. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yeah, maybe I conflated his awesomeness as a host with how I think he would be as a guest. He would probably lose all his coolness and just be a scheming, nervous wreck.

  2. Great list this week! I’ve never really thought about what literary characters I’d invite to a dinner party. Bridget Jones and Jo March would be incredibly fun though!

  3. I was with you until you named Jay Gatsby. Why? He held huge parties and then wouldn’t even interact with his guests. I don’t think he would be a good dinner guest.

    1. I didn’t think about that at all, but now I am totally on board with you. Even though I do wish I could chat with him at some point, because he is such an interesting character.

  4. I love this concept! God, Jo was seriously the best (even if I don’t understand why she didn’t end up with Laurie. Amy?! Seriously?? WHYYYY???), and Lizzie Bennet is the perfect girl for a party! And Dumbledore…ahahaha god I can only imagine how weird things would get with him as a dinner guest!

    1. Fun invites. Cath is one of my favorite characters. I just didn’t think she would like going to such a big party. Although perhaps if I invited Baz and Simon Snow, she would be more interested.

  5. I love this idea! How about a party where everyone comes as their favorite literary character? Dumbledore and Liz Bennett are on the top of my list, and I would include as mentioned above, Mr. Darcy… but also d’Artagnan of the Musketeers (sigh…) and every party needs a brilliant social misfit like Sherlock Holmes. I’m having fun thinking about this party – Thanks Alison!!

    1. I know. She is such a fun character. I feel like at least with her there I could count on her being the more awkward and embarrassing one and then I would be off the hook.

  6. I want to go to this dinner party! (And can I sit next to Tyrion?) I’d also like to see who you seat next to whom. Now that’s a challenge!

    1. You can definitely sit next to Tyrion. I think I would be deciding between sitting with Jo March and Elizabeth Bennet, although then it wouldn’t be boy, girl, boy, girl.

  7. Love this! I would definitely love to party with Holly Golightly and Jay Gatsby and sit between them. Two of my favourite books (and movies) so there was no question there.

    Awesome post.
