Top 10 Bookish Resolutions for 2015

toptentuesday

I have two big resolutions for 2015. The first is to write every day. It might just be a sentence or a section I reread out loud to see how it sounds, but I really want to try to interact with my fiction writing every day of 2015. We’ll see how it goes. My second resolution, which is more personal, is to stop not doing nice things for people because I’m nervous or embarrassed about it. Too often I don’t give someone a compliment or write them a letter or whatever because I think to myself What if that is totally embarrassing. Hopefully that will end in 2015.

So now that I’ve got those out of the way, here are ten things I hope to accomplish in my reading and book blogging this year. These goals are secondary to to what I wrote above, but I still hope to cross at least some of them off the list.

  1. Read at least 100 books.
  2. Read at least 25 new-to-me authors.
  3. Read at least 10 debut novelists from either 2014 or 2015.
  4. Read at least 25 authors featuring a “diverse” author and/or main character. (I put the term diverse in quotes because it seems super vague/charged, but I will define that as outside of the “mainstream” i.e. featuring PoC, LGBT, mental illness, different abilities, different religions, etc.)
  5. Definitely need to  up my game requesting ARC’s. (I worked on this a bit this year, but could definitely do better).
  6. Carefully read every book I’m assigned in my literature classes.
  7. Really study more of my favorite YA books, to try to figure out how the authors crafted them.
  8. Read HOUSE OF MIRTH – this was on my resolution list last year and I didn’t get to it. This was the first kindle book I bought in 2008 and I still haven’t got to it. Hopefully 2015 is the year!
  9. Attend at least 20 author readings.
  10. Check more books out from the library and when I do buy books try to support local bookstores, like Books of Wonder where I spend at least 30% of my free time.

Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme. Let me know in the comments what your resolutions for 2015 are!

  1. Great goals! Here I am feeling accomplished reading only 20 books! But if you don’t get around to “The House of Mirth,” don’t worry. It’s pretty meh, at least compared to Wharton’s “The Age of Innocence.” Now THAT book is worth its own resolution!

    1. Good to know about House of Mirth. I bought it after reading and loving The Age of Innocence, but I guess I won’t be too hard on myself if I don’t get to it. I just think it’s funny that I’ve owned it for so long and still haven’t read it.
