Burn, Read, Rewrite: TFiOS, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, & The Book Thief

We’ve definitely done some hard rounds of this game, but none has been as hard for me as choosing between these wildly popular and incredibly good YA novels. Seriously, even as I’m typing, I’m still changing my mind on what my choices are going to be. To play along you say in the comments which book you would read (your favorite), rewrite (second favorite/one that you might want to change something about), and burn (least favorite). As always, I love to hear people’s different reasonings and rationale for their choices.

Because it’s only fair that I play along as well, here we go:

  • Read: The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky.
  • Rewrite: The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green (wouldn’t change much, but maybe a few more scenes with Isaac).
  • Burn: The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak (even though it is killing me to write that and feels particularly horrible to *figuratively* burn a book that discusses the evils of book burning. )

Okay now I feel like a terrible person, but I’m excited to read your thoughts in the comments!

    1. Totally agree …I feel like in different moods I could have put any of the books in any of the slots. Thanks for playing even though I was apparently feeling particularly cruel this morning!

  1. I completely agree!!! Perks and TFiOS are two of my all time favorites, but I really couldn’t get into The Book Thief (I blame it on my intense aversion to Holocaust literature.. that whole time period is hard for me to read).

  2. Oh, you’re cruel with this one, Alison!

I vote READ Book Thief (always, always). Rewrite TFiOS (more kissing can’t be a bad thing, right?). And … and … no. I can’t burn Perks. I bow out of this game.
