This weeks topic was hard for me. I obviously love literary heroines … I mean look at the title of this blog. So narrowing down all my favorite female characters to ten was no easy task. Here’s what I came up with … even though some of the ladies left off the list are breaking my heart. Let me know who your favorite heroines from books are in the comments!
Big thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme!
Oh yes, this list wasn’t easy. The unnamed heroine from Rebecca is a great choice! 🙂
Thank you. It bugs me so much that she doesn’t have a name since she is one of my favorites!
When we read Rebecca in school one of the writing assignments was to name her and then defend your name choice
Jo March! How did I forget Jo March?
I found the History of Love too confusing and convoluted to have any strong feelings about any of the characters! What did you find in Alma that was admirable?
Really! That’s one of my favorite books. I thought she was so funny and such an over-thinker … I guess different strokes.
You know I love Anne Shirley 🙂
Awesome post.
Yes! I will always remember your talking about books with Anne Shirley …. such a goal of mine some day!
Ella! That’s a great choice! I didn’t even think about her!
My TTT!
That was my all time favorite book growing up … maybe it still is!
great list you got on going. especially when you added madeline!
if you have the timeplease visit

Oh, what a fantastic list 😀

Thank you!
Just played which Heroine are you on buzzfeed books and received Jo March – so you know I am happy!!
Might have to take that quiz even though I generally try to stay away from buzzfeed.
Great list! I remember loving Wrinkle in Time but it’s been so long since I’ve read it I’m really looking forward to revisiting it. Alice and the unnamed heroine in Rebecca are great choices as well!
Thank you!
Oh! I haven’t seen anyone choose the Unnamed Heroine of Rebecca! That’s great! I loved her, too. Great list!
Thank you, I am a big fan of Rebecca as well!
Nice, quite a few children’s books! I loved Ella Enchanted, so good choice!
My TTT: http://bookclubbabe.net/2015/02/24/top-ten-favorite-literary-heroines/
Yes! It definitely skews towards children’s book characters!
A great list! I have similar favorites. My list would include Sabriel from the book bearing her name (by Garth Nix); Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird; Moses from Three Times Lucky (Sheila Turnage); Katarina Bishop from Ally Carter’s Heist Society series; Francesca from Saving Franesca by Melina Marchetta.
I love Scout! And I totally need to read Saving Francesca. So many people have recommended it to me!
I didn’t think of Ella, she is a truly strong heroine!
There are some books on here i didn’t know, will be checking them out!
My Top 10 :]
I love that you included so many childhood favourites, because I think the heroines we read as children impact us on such a deep level and are so important to our developing sense or our place in the world. Basically, the more badass ladies we encounter on the page, the goddamn better!
