Burn, Read, Rewrite: I’ll Give You the Sun, Belzhar, & We Were Liars

Hello and happy Monday! I’m about to board a bus away from my family in Annapolis and an absolutely lovely spring break (still can’t believe I actually get one of those now!) back to New York. Just so I’ll be able to torture myself the whole bus ride about choosing between three AMAZING novels, I picked three of my favorite YA books published last year: I’ll Give You the Sun, by Jandy Nelson, Belzhar, by Meg Wolitzer, and We Were Liars, by E. Lockhart. Ooof this is going to be a hard one for me, but I can’t wait to read which book you’d read (your favorite), rewrite (second favorite or one you want to change something about), and burn (least favorite).

Also this is the last week of Burn, Read, Rewrite, at least for a while. Marry, Date or Dump will be back by popular demand next Monday – so if you have any good ideas for candidates let me know!

Here are my picks for this week:

  • Read: I’ll Give You the Sun (if you haven’t read this book yet, time to get on it ASAP. It will give you chills.)
  • Rewrite: We Were Liars (I liked but didn’t love this book the first time around. However, I wrote my thesis on this book in the fall and fell in love with it over several readings.)
  • Burn: Belzhar (even though I really really really don’t want to.)

  1. So I’ve only read Belzhar out of these three, and I absolutely loved it, so that’d be read, for sure. I won’t make up answers for the others, though I”m pretty sure I’d choose to Burn We Were Liars. I don’t think that ones for me. I really want to read I’ll Give You the Sun though! Thanks for the reminder to add it to my Reading My Library Challenge TBR!
