Welcome back to Marry, Date or Dump. I enjoyed the break, but somehow Burn, Read, Rewrite wasn’t as much fun. Plus, I learned that you all are pretty upset about the thought of even figuratively burning a book (which is a good thing!) so I think it will be fun to be back on familiar territory. To refresh memories, I give three characters and you tell me who you’d marry, date and dump in the comments. This time around I think I’ll list my own choices as well, since that makes it more fun. This was one of the first ever group of characters I did for Marry, Date or Dump and one of the most popular, so I thought I’d pose the question again for the (re)inaugural game.
Mr. Darcy, Rhett Butler, & Jay Gatsby: Marry, Date or Dump?
Here’s what I would do:
- Marry: Mr. Darcy (Lake scene = sawoon. Also Pemberley.)
- Date: Jay Gatsby (Nice shirts and lots of champagne at parties)
- Dump: Rhett Butler (Yes, he’s handsome and charismatic, but frankly my dear Rhett I don’t give a damn!)

Marry Rhett…I mean, there’s so many drawbacks, but Rhett Butler is just, EVERYTHING, to me.
Date Mr. Darcy, I think. I don’t know.
Dump Jay, I don’t want any of that drama thanks!
So fair about the drama surrounding Gatsby. Good call!
Marry: Rhett Butler. Entrepreneurial, inclined to adventure, an apparent scallywag, but underneath burns the heart of a true love. Scarlett blew it.
Date: Jay Gatsby. Again, a self-made man, though his facade is built of pain and misguided desire for Daisy. He will never break into the upper crust and it’s sad he can’t see the falsity of that strata of society.
Dump: Mr. Darcy. Inherited his wealth, and despite his love for a wonderful woman, is at heart a creature of his class and time. Too privileged to ever break out of his entitled bubble.

Dare Rhett because obviously but marry Darcy because even more obvious. I’d dump Gatsby – he just does nothing for me.
I guess I am the only one with a bit of a Gatsby crush, but I’m totally with you on marrying Darcy.
