A few weeks ago, we studied middle grade books with Gothic influences. It totally inspired me to think about a few of my favorite Gothic novels for today’s marry, date, or dump. We’ve got the brooding Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë, the mysterious and sometimes cruel Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, by Emily Brontë, and Victor Frankenstein from Frankenstein, by Marry Shelley. Lots of characters with high positives and high negatives, am I right? To play leave a comment letting me know who you would marry, who you would date, and who you would dump. Can’t wait to see who you pick!
Here are my choices (they were hard!)
- Marry: Mr. Rochester (he made some stupid mistakes when he was young, but overall seems like a good guy who got tricked into a bad situation)
- Date: Victor Frankenstein (show him the beauties of nature and don’t let him get to distracted by science … it doesn’t lead to good things)
- Dump: Heathcliff (he never did it for me. I always felt like Catherine made a good call marrying Linton, but maybe that’s just me?)
Marry Mr Rochester, Date Heathcliff, dump Dr Frankenstein…..
Interesting! I definitely agree with you about Mr. Rochester being the best pick!
Heathcliff could be played by all the Ralph Fiennes’s and Tom Hardy’s of the world, he’s still a no-no for me. I’d marry Rochester and date Victor (or Victoria if we’re going by the latest adaptation)
I’m with you on Heathcliff! Also I don’t know the latest Frankenstein adaptation with Victor becoming Victoria … is that the one on youtube?
yeah that’s the one 🙂 Frankenstein MD
I’ve only read Jane Eyre, so I’d marry Mr. Rochester, too. This is such a great and fun post. I’d love to do more of these haha
