Five Good Things

Bahhh! This morning was so crazy to wake up and not be in crazy thesis mode. It’s been a week full of good things. Here are just a few of them.

1.) Finished a new draft of my novel and got it into my advisor in time for my last thesis turn in. It’s far from perfect. In fact, I think there are some spots that still need some major revision. But in the last month, writing has become a really fun thing again. I’ve been working on this story on and off for almost two years and I’m not tired of it. I can’t even believe it.

2.) I read at the admitted students reception this week at New School alongside so many amazing writers including Coe Booth. Two years ago I went to that reading and decided to move to New York for this program. It was the first time I could picture my life here and I clearly remember thinking maybe I will read at this reading someday. Such a circular moment.

3.) I wrote about this yesterday, but so many people in my life have been ridiculously supportive this week. Friends from Big Sur sent a care package with almond butter and fancy jam after reading this post. My roommate surprised me with flowers, balloons, and Moscow Mule ingredients last night. A friend from college sent flowers. So many texts and sweet emails. It’s been an inspiring level of kindness.

4.) I’ve been extra nervous this week and decided to reread one of my favorite books from last year, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertalli. I ended up reading it twice. Simon and Blue might be one of my favorite romances ever (hence the second reading this week, major swoons!)

5.) This exists. Maybe I’m writing in the wrong genre! Get ready to giggle.
