- The week started with Labor Day, which is one of my favorite holidays. I wrote about why … but basically because I get free books. I’ve been working my way through Hamilton: The Revolution, by Lin Manuel Miranda and Jeremy Carter, all week. It’s definitely got me absent-mindedly humming “Satisfied” on the subway.
- It was a great week for reading. I reread To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and P.S. I Still Love You, by Jenny Han. Actually, I reread P.S. I Still Love You twice (no sleep on Wednesday night!). I also read The Square Root of Summer, by Harriet Reuter Hapgood. This book was majorly unique and majorly good. It was also a good time for me to read it, because it primarily deals with the grief of losing a grandparent.
- Even better than a good reading week is a good writing week! I’m not at peak writing mode yet, but I did tackle the climax of my newest draft. This is the part that needed the most changes, and I’ve been worrying about it all summer. I don’t know that I’ve gotten all the problems worked out, but I do have something to show my writing partner. Exciting! Now I just need to finish!
- I went crazy and spent $40 on new pens from Muji. I’m not an office supply kind of girl … but these pens really are better. I’ve been making lists and writing in my diary all morning, and it feels so luxurious.
- I was so so pleased to see Hillary Clinton on the Humans of New York Blog this week. I loved how directly addressed the perception that she’s cold and unemotional in the post. I’ve loved and admired this woman since I was a little girl. I even had a HRC picture book. But this made me love her even more and felt like such a human moment.
- My first (and one of my best) NYC friends, started a new book review blog. It’s called Becky with the Good Books in a not-so-subtle nod to Beyonce + Lemonade. So far she’s reviewed Sweetbitter, by Stephanie Danler, and Just Kids, by Patti Smith.
