If you’ve read this blog before, you know I’m pretty obsessed with all things YA. I don’t think YA is just for teenagers, and when I was a teenager I read way more “grown up” books than I do now – so part of me rejects both categories. But to escape from that tangent, I’ve been reading more adult nonfiction and fiction this year and I like a lot of them. Not the way I like books about teenagers smooching, but I still I like them. Here are some so called “grown up” books that I’m hoping to read in the not-too-distant future. Let me know if you have suggestions on which to start with!
Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme!
Mmm, I can’t WAIT for the Alexie memoir! I too read a lot more serious literature when I was an actual teen/young adult and now as a middle aged reading teacher read a ton of YA. But yes, sometimes I solid, thoughtful piece of work aimed at adults really hits the spot. Right now I’m listening to Americanah on my commute, and really enjoying the change of pace.
I LOVE Americanah. That is seriously one of my favorites!
I love the cover of The Idiot. It has me very intrigued!
That’s what originally drew me in too! Then I read the description, and I was like oh wow I really want to read this.
Great list! Magic for Beginners and Shrill are both on my TBR, and You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me sounds great. =)
I’ve been wanting to read Magic for Beginners for years since I heard it described as Harry Potter mixed with Alice Munro by a bookseller.
Haha teenagers smooching. 😉 I am drawn to young adult as well. I need my cup of humor and adult doesn’t always have that. Magic for Beginners looks interesting.
I think that will be my first one to read off this list. It’s on hold for me at the library right now!
Eleanor Oliphant is Totally Fine caught my eye right away. What a wonderful title and cover for that book. I hadn’t heard of it before, but now I’m also curious to read it.
Here is my Top Ten Tuesday!
I think the title is what first caught my eye too!
Oh man. I didn’t know Lindy had a book out. OFF TO ADD IT TO MY CART.
I’ve heard GREAT things about this one!
