Ten Books I Love From When I Started Getting Into YA

I know, I know, it’s Wednesday. I was spacing out yesterday, but didn’t want to miss this topic because I liked it a lot. I started writing YA before I was reading it widely. I’d read a few YA books in high school, was obsessed with Twilight along with my friends in college, and started reading Hunger Games with my students my first year teaching. But it was starting this blog, hoping to learn more about these books and the people who wrote them, that really made me fall in love with the genre. Here are my gateway YA books. Each one will always be incredibly special to me.

  1. Great list! A few of these are old faves of mine, too, like TFIOS and Perks. I loved the Twilight series when the books were first being released, but drifted away from it by the time I finished Breaking Dawn. I kinda want to reread the series and see if I can find what made me love them so much as a teen!

  2. Great list! I’m starting to read a lot more YA now and need to check out these books. So far I’ve only read Twilight and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. A while back, I volunteered at my library as part of a children’s reading challenge and one of the kids told me the ending of The Hunger Games. I think that’s partly why I haven’t read it yet!
