Hi, I’m Alison. I love writing about books on the Internet. The main place I do that now is Book Riot. I also teach writing to kids, teenagers, and college students in New York City. And I have an MFA in Writing for Children from The New School (which is 100% the most fun graduate degree you can get).
For a long time, this was a YA book blog called Hardcovers & Heroines (alliteration was in during 2012..what can I say). I don’t blog very much anymore and am still figuring out what to do with this space. But you can still find me talking about books nonstop on twitter @alisoncdoherty or on my instagram & my goodreads.
In the meantime, feel free to read through my old blog posts. You can also check out what I’m writing now on Book Riot and Frolic. Thanks for reading!
I’ve nominated you (well, both of you technically 🙂 ) for the Versatile Blogger Award…because I think you’re fantastic! You can see what it’s all about here: http://crossstitchyourheart.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/the-versatile-blogger-award/

I do not look good with bangs but i like your blog
I don’t believe you. Maybe you haven’t found the right bangs for your face shape? But thanks for reading, I like your blog too!
Actually, whispy long bangs look good on me – but not thick ones–so you are right
This just became my favorite comment exchange of all time.
you are not making fun of me are you (lol)
Not at all! I just feel triumphant about my bangs theory.
good — it does work doesn’t it — I need some bangs again to hide the deep furrows in my forehead (I call them my think lines but we all know what they are)
Hey there!
I’ve tagged you in a game of blog tag: http://bookclubbabe.wordpress.com/2012/08/09/blog-tag-im-it/
Awesome blog, I don’t know how I haven’t stumbled across this already (as I’m seeing some familiar faces in the comments etc), but I’m glad I have! 🙂

Hello there girl-with-the-best-teapots-ever! I’ve nominated you for the Liebster Award! Should you choose to accept this mission, click the link! http://revolutionforbreakfast.com/2013/08/19/reaping-the-liebster-nominees/
” As a teenager I mostly read classics and wrote very serious (aka very bad) short stories about grown up things like working in a law firm or feeling like an old maid at age 26. Now that I’m in my twenties, I only want to read and write young adult books.”
Same here! It’s nice to see I’m not the only one. I loved YA when I was younger, then hit a phase where I felt like I should grow out of it and be more ‘mature’ or ‘sophisticated’ with my reading. But YA is awesome! I’m glad I was able to rediscover it and realize how fantastic it is.
Thanks for commenting. I’m glad I’m not the only one too!

Thank you for visiting! And commenting!
Dear Alison, I’m very glad to finally find your blog! I am grateful for your informative, provocative, intelligent and passionate advocacy of books, reading and writing. And delighted to visit with you so much this weekend! big hugs, Jeff
Jeff! You are (as per usual) very sweet and much to kind. Thank you very much for your compliments. It was so lovely to see you this weekend and to get to know you more during my Big Sur Adventure. I am so excited to hear you like the blog!
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog. Do you try to write full time? I love my writing but with a full time job I have found it hard to find time. But it have found blogging about my travels easier since they are done in short bursts.
I love your ‘marry, date, or dump’ segments. Please keep them coming!!
Marisa

Hi Marisa! Thanks so much for commenting. I have been lucky this year to be able to take some time off from work to write full time, and right now I’m doing mostly freelance work so that is really helpful in terms of setting my own schedule. I can totally relate to having trouble developing a writing routine while working full time. What I would say is that even short bursts of working consistently on your novel can add up. I also found that picking one or two days a week (I picked one week day and one weekend day) to wake up early or stay up late to write. I know it is really hard though. Keep it up! And thanks again for commenting.
Let me know if you ever have suggestions for future marry, date, or dump segments.
Most definitely! That’s a great idea picking a day or two in the week to dedicate to writing even for a short time. I think I can manage that. Thanks for the tip. Looking forward to more of your posts!

Haha, I love ‘aspiring adult’! Definitely using that phrase from now on. 🙂 Your blog is great, looking forward to reading more.
Thanks, Jenny! Hope you enjoy the blog!
Thanks for the nomination!
Are you writing a book at the moment? or have you finished one? I’d be interested to hear how you go getting an agent and a publisher etc. I’ve just started a blog and am doing the same thing. 🙂
I’m still working on a book – but am hopeful this is the last draft before I query. Glad that you’ve started blogging! It’s taught me so much about this world and put me in contact with amazingly supportive people!
Wow this is awesome. I was just searching for posts about Paranormalcy, and this is where I ended up. I’m glad I did!
