Marry, Date or Dump: Nick Carraway, Holden Caulfield & Jake Barnes

I’ve still got Gatsby on the brain, and wanted to think of a good marry, date or dump to incorporate Nick Carraway because I’ve already done one with Jay and one for the ladies from the book. So I thought I’d pair Nick with some of my other interesting and perhaps unreliable narrators from two of my other favorite books – Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye and Jake Barnes from The Sun Also Rises. This trio really has me stumped because there are so many reasons to want to marry all of them and so many reasons to want to date all of them. The Great Gatsby: Baz Lurhman Remixes a Classic

If you’ve been reading the blog, or you’ve had a conversation with me since I was in the 11th grade, there is a good chance you know that I love The Great Gatsby. I consistently advocate for it as “the great American novel” and if I could get away with it would only wear pink tailored suits and call everyone “old sport”.

While I’ve been disappointed by past attempts to translate the novel into film, it would be an understatement to say I went into the movie theater this morning wanting to like this movie.
