Some Thoughts on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Finally)

29056083How has it been over a month since Harry Potter and the Cursed Child came out? I literally don’t know where time goes. Rather predictably, I planned on going to at least one of the super fun-looking midnight release parties held July 31 and bookstores across the city but then fell asleep at 9pm instead. Also rather predictably, I woke up Sunday morning, downloaded the book (play?), and read through the story in one sitting.

I have a hard time know what to say when people ask me about this book.

There are things I liked about it, for sure. Scorpius Malfoy will forever be one of my favorite characters in the Hogwarts world. I love that Draco’s son is like a perfect mix of Ron and Hermione. Poetic justice, for everyone. I also really loved Albus Severus as a character and found the plot very clever. Confession, I’ve been venturing into a few HP fanfics lately. It is a pretty crazy world, and some of the stuff I see is not very good. But a lot of what I read is very very good, and it is definitely the most lovely to be back in this world again. As a result of this illicit reading, I definitely have had Harry Potter on my brain lately. Happy Monday friends! There is something about the Halloween to Christmas season that puts Hogwarts on my mind. I mean honestly, there is something about any time of year that puts Hogwarts on my mind, but I think it is there more during the holiday season. I thought it would be fun to see which of the Marauders everyone would marry, date, or dump. I decided to leave Wormtail/Peter pettigrew off the list, because everyone would dump him (although if you disagree please explain yourself in the comments!). So your choices are James Potter (Prongs), Sirius Black (Padfoot), and Remus Lupin (Moony). I’m still making my mind up so I’m excited to see who you pick!

Marry, Date or Dump: Triwizard Tournament Champions

After J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter’s birthday last week, I definitely have Hogwarts on my mind. I’ve done lots of harry potter themed marry, date or dump posts (and I will probably do lots more), but this week I wondered who you would choose between the Triwizard champions. Marry, Date or Dump: The Weasley Brothers

Do you all realize that it’s been seven years since the summer Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released? That is mind blowing to me. And even though I know there is almost nothing more annoying than someone in their mid-twenties saying they feel old, this fact is making me feel pretty old right now. It’s definitely time for me to re-read the series. The Weasley family are definitely one of my favorite parts in the series, so I thought I’d give you the choice of any of the Weasley brothers to marry, date or dump today. Marry, Date or Dump: Hermione Edition

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 10.51.28 AMMuch has been made of J.K. Rowling’s statements on the possibility that Hermione should have ended up with Harry not Ron. Some people, myself included, think this is crazy talk. Other people think she shouldn’t have gotten married at all. I think there’s been too much fuss about the whole thing, but for this week’s marry, date or dump I thought we could choose what we think should have happened with Hermione. Between Harry, Ron, and Neville (who though a bit slow in the books, did end up as a Hogwarts professor) who would Hermione have married, dated, and dumped.
