It’s been way way way too long since we’ve done a marry, date, or dump and I’ve just been reading the three most perfect YA romances to pick our boys from. We’ve got Ambrose from Sarah Dessen’s new book Once and for All, Teddy from Windfall by Jennifer E. Smith, and last (but certainly not least!) Peter K. from Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy. If you want to play along, say who you would marry, date, and dump in the comments. My answer are…

Sarah Dessen & Jenny Han & Jennifer E. Smith … Oh my!

FullSizeRender (1)
A very happy book blogger, at Books of Wonder last night!

Did you see what I was trying to do there in the title with the Wizard of Oz reference? No? Oh well, moving on with my geeky self. Last night, was like nonsexual YA orgy of amazingness. I got to go to my favorite bookstore and see/meet three favorite authors. The crowd and energy in the room was nuts. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen more folks come out to Books of Wonder before. I got their half an hour early and was apparently the 70th person there … bananas! Continue reading “Sarah Dessen & Jenny Han & Jennifer E. Smith … Oh my!”

Ten Books To Read If You Like Sarah Dessen

toptentuesday

Happy Tuesday friends! My MFA program is full of Sarah Dessen fanatics, which is a-okay with me. Seriously, I think like three or four of us (out of ten) decided to write our thesis papers on Sarah Dessen novels. It is fantastic to be able to be like “Oh my gosh he is such a Wes” to my friends and have everyone know what I mean. Anyways, here are some books I think fans of Sarah Dessen would appreciate. They are full of summery things, contemporary romance, and strong/relatable/interesting female protagonists. If you have any other suggestions for Dessen fans please pass them on in the comments! Marry, Date or Dump: Boys from Sarah Dessen Novels

Screen Shot 2015-08-09 at 10.29.35 AM

Still posting some of my favorite old topics for marry, date or dump, because I’m still on vacation. This one (originally posted in February 2014) was particularly fun, because I’ve now read all of Sarah Dessen’s novels so I feel like I can make a more informed decision. I challenged myself to pick all new characters from who I chose last time, but am mostly excited to see which characters from Sarah Dessen novels you want to marry, date, and dump!

Summer of Sarah Dessen: Just Listen

51738If I had my way, every summer would be the summer of Sarah Dessen. Seriously, is there a better book than you could be reading on the beach or on a picnic blanket in the park than a Sarah Dessen novel? That doesn’t mean they are all light and fluffy or just beach reads. In fact, the book I’ve been asked to review this week Just Listen is anything but. Still, it is one of my favorites. The first time I read the book I finished it in less than four hours and I’ve reread it several times since. Let’s talk about why…

But first, here is the book’s description from goodreads: Last year, Annabel was “the girl who has everything” — at least that’s the part she played in the television commercial for Kopf’s Department Store. This year, she’s the girl who has nothing: no best friend because mean-but-exciting Sophie dropped her, no peace at home since her older sister became anorexic, and no one to sit with at lunch. Until she meets Owen Armstrong.Tall, dark, and music-obsessed, Owen is a reformed bad boy with a commitment to truth-telling. With Owen’s help, maybe Annabel can face what happened the night she and Sophie stopped being friends.

Marry, Date or Dump: Quentin, Mac, & Jacob

Screen Shot 2015-05-18 at 10.28.44 AM

This week I’m pulling heroes from three of the books on the New York Times YA bestseller list. We’ve got Quentin from Paper Towns, by John Green, Mac from Saint Anything, by Sarah Dessen, and Jacob from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Let me know in the comments which character you would marry, who you would date, and who you would dump. Bonus points for interesting reasons why!

Marry, Date or Dump: Sarah Dessen Characters

Sarah Dessen WallpaperI’ve gotten more than a little obsessed with reading my way through all of Sarah Dessen’s novels. This week, I’m not going to give you the choices. You can choose male characters. You can choose female characters. Heck, if you want to you can choose parents. Just let me know in the comments who you would marry, who you would date, and who you would dump. Continue reading “Marry, Date or Dump: Sarah Dessen Characters”
