Top Ten Literary Love Triangles

toptentuesday2

Happy Almost-Valentine’s Day, friends! Last year for Top Ten Tuesday I listed my favorite friends first romances. This year I’m going with another trope I love from romance, the love triangle. Maybe it’s cliched. Maybe it’s overdone. I don’t care. The automatic tension gets me every time. And here are ten of my favorites! Let me know how you feel about love triangles in the comments! And have a happy cupid day, no matter your relationship status, tomorrow! Continue reading “Top Ten Literary Love Triangles”

10 Books That Have Been On My TBR For Way Too Long

toptentuesday2

Happy Tuesday! I don’t even remember what it’s like to go into a bookstore and have no ideas for books I want to read. These are a collection of books that have been on my TBR – and in some cases on my bookshelf – for WAY too long. Tell me if you have tips in the comments for what to start reading ASAP and what I can skip/hold off reading a bit longer. Continue reading “10 Books That Have Been On My TBR For Way Too Long”

Ten Books I Can’t Believe I Read

toptentuesday2

Happy Tuesday! I think I know my reading habits well enough to usually predict what books I will like and what books I won’t. But that wasn’t always the case. Also … sometimes when I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone, I’ve ended up loving a book, learning something new about writing or storytelling, or at least appreciating that I read it. This week I dived into my goodreads archives, and came up with these ten books that, frankly, I’m surprised I ever decided to read. Continue reading “Ten Books I Can’t Believe I Read”

Ten Books I Liked but Don’t Remember Much About

toptentuesday

Hello and happy Tuesday! Every now and then I love a book but once I’m finished I don’t remember the details very well or I was so engrossed I forget the story. These are all books that I was obsessed with at one point, but don’t remember much about anymore. I guess it’s time for a reread! Continue reading “Ten Books I Liked but Don’t Remember Much About”

Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2017

toptentuesday2

Hi friends and happy new year! I hope you had a restorative holiday with lots of cozy reading time. I know, I did. Although now it’s back to writing, writing, writing. I worked hard to read lots of debut and new-to-me authors this year, so this list was particularly tricky for me to narrow down. But somehow I’ve managed to cull ten authors I’m so glad I discovered over the last year. I’m excited to read more of all of their books in the year ahead! Continue reading “Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2017”

Top Ten Bookish Settings I’d Love to Visit

toptentuesday

Hi friends! Sorry, I’ve been missing. Trying to finish NaNoWriMo and do revisions on another project kept me busy! But I didn’t want to miss this Top Ten Tuesday. I always ask my creative writing students this questions as a springboard for talking about using sensory language in setting descriptions. Here are books with places that are vividly described and characters I’d love to meet. Continue reading “Top Ten Bookish Settings I’d Love to Visit”

Not Too Scary Books for Halloween

toptentuesday2

Happy Halloween, friends! I am the biggest scaredy cat in the world. In 2nd grade, I got so queasy when the teacher said blood that for our spelling test it was called “the b word” before the other kids spelled out B-L-O-O-D. I had to leave the theater during Parent Trap for the ear piercing scene. The only horror movie I’ve ever seen is Pet Cemetery – and I still think about it and get freaked out fifteen years later. Here are ten books featuring suspense, magical realism, witches, vampires, ghosts, or just some great spooky vibes. None of these were too scary for me (including There’s Someone Inside Your House – the only horror novel on the list) and I hope they won’t be for you! Top Ten Unique Book Titles

toptentuesday2

Happy Tuesday, friends! I love book titles. A good book title will definitely convince me to read a book (see: The Princess Saves Herself in this One below). And I keep a long list of potential titles I might use some day as a writer. Here are some of my favorite book titles that stood out to me! They are all also excellent reads! Top Ten Yummy Foods Mentioned In Books

toptentuesday2

Okay, I’ll admit that I didn’t always go with the yummiest foods described in books. Sometimes I went for funny or interesting over delicious. Because in real life Potato Peel Pie sounds dubious and Turkish Delight is always a let down. But both pop of the page when described in their respective books!  I also limited myself to one food per book, otherwise the whole list would have been Harry Potter and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Top Ten Book Boyfriends (from the last year)

toptentuesday2

I write a lot about book boyfriends. I mean for *years* I wrote a marry, date or dump post about potential book boyfriends (and girlfriends!). Since I’ve covered the topic so extensively, I decided to limit this list to my literary crushes from the last year. Don’t judge me for how many YA boys there are on this list – they are way dreamier than the men in adult literary fiction. Continue reading “Top Ten Book Boyfriends (from the last year)”
