Wednesday brought sad news of Maya Angelou’s death, but it also brought a celebration of her life, her words, and her wisdom. I love how the internet facilitates this. Friends have been posting favorite quotes, poems, video clips, and pictures of signed first editions on facebook, tumblr, and twitter. On Wednesday, I tweeted that there was no way I could pick just one quote to tweet. This was true. As I say in this blog’s bio I basically write down every Angelou quotation that I see. However, upon a little reflection although I can’t pick one quote, there are two things she said/wrote that have stuck with me. I count them among the best pieces of advice I’ve ever received. They are lessons I’m still trying to learn and I am so grateful for them.
So of all the poems, quotations, and interview answers – all the amazing pieces of wisdom Angelou gave to the world – here are the two that mean the most to me. Here is my small celebration of this amazing woman.
