Four Good Things

  1. I turned my thesis in yesterday. It’s been “done” for a long time, but seeing it professionally printed and bound felt scary official and surprisingly emotional. I just kept looking at it over and over again. Luckily, my mom asked for her own copy so even though the real thesis is on my dean’s desk I still have one to page through.
  2. So much time to read this week. After the reading dip during thesis, my resurgence is still going strong. I was delighted to finally read The Raven King, by Maggie Stiefvaters. I have so much love for Blue, Gansey, Adam, and Ronan and after four books about them I’m glad I know how their story ends. I also finished Kissing in Americaby Margo Raab and All the Single Ladies: Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation, by Rebecca Traister.
  3. On Wednesday, I got to see Mark Wilkerson, Phil Donahue, and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder on the stage at Housing Works to discuss this book and the ongoing effects of the war in Iraq. Very moving.
  4. My friend, Betsy Cornwell made her way on to the New York Times Bestseller list for her YA feminist Cinderella retelling Mechanica and I could not be more thrilled. If you haven’t read this book yet, what are you waiting for?
