Happy Halloween, friends! I am the biggest scaredy cat in the world. In 2nd grade, I got so queasy when the teacher said blood that for our spelling test it was called “the b word” before the other kids spelled out B-L-O-O-D. I had to leave the theater during Parent Trap for the ear piercing scene. The only horror movie I’ve ever seen is Pet Cemetery – and I still think about it and get freaked out fifteen years later. Here are ten books featuring suspense, magical realism, witches, vampires, ghosts, or just some great spooky vibes. None of these were too scary for me (including There’s Someone Inside Your House – the only horror novel on the list) and I hope they won’t be for you!
Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme!
I need to read There’s Someone Inside Your House. It’s been on my radar for a while now! 🙂 I also want to read The Virgin Suicides!
I was SO scared to read There’s Someone Inside Your House, but it was so so so good!
I remember reading HP & the Chamber of Secrets and getting SO SCARED. Stupid spiders. I’ve always hated those with a passion; reading that book when you’re a kid is.. *cringes*
I still shiver whenever I watch that movie as well.
Guess it’s safe to say I’m a scaredy cat as well. :’)
Those spiders are pretty creepy!
Great list! I really should get to Unwind at some point – I’ve heard so many good things about the series!
Oh it’s amazing! And thank you!
I’m not a fan of scary stuff either! Anything too scary gives me nightmares and I don’t need that. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.
I get nightmares too!
I love Unwind, Harry Potter and The Raven Boys, though the faint hearted should probably flick through that one particular scene in Unwind! The Graces is on my TBR.

I loved Unwind! The unwinding scene at the end was seriously creepy.

Wow, you are a scaredy cat! I’ve read a lot of the books on your list and loved them, especially Unwind, Harry Potter, and Carry On.
YES TO ALL OF THESE. I completely agree with all of your choices, especially We Were Liars and Harry Potter (Chamber of Secrets, Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows especially). Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous choices! ❤
Awww Alison! This is the cutest post for Halloween! I love these books! The Virgin Suicides freaks me out… those poor desperate girls! Even Twilight!!
I’m a little behind but I love top 10 Tuesday… Here is my post if you’re interested in my choices ❤ https://wp.me/p3LRfZ-6Vt
Virgin Suicides freaked me out too … but it doesn’t haunt me the way some really scary things would. I think gore is the thing I have the hardest time with.
