There are books I fall in love with right away. From page one I’m in love with the characters and completely riveted. But there are other books that I struggle to get into. My friends will ask, “Have you finished that yet?” And I will sheepishly tell them I’m still just a few chapters in, but then something will change and by the end (or sometimes on a second reading) I am totally engrossed and can’t put the book down. Here are a few from the second category!
Thanks to The Broke and the Bookish for hosting this weekly book meme!
I liked Nantucket Blue when I got into it too! 🙂 Great list! I’m glad you ended up loving these.
Thank you! I still need to read the sequel to Nantucket Blue!
Great list! Six of Crows and I Capture the Castle are both on my TBR, and I’ve been hearing lots of good things about Bluets this year. =)
I loved all three books but definitely had a hard time getting into them. Bluets is very different, but very beautiful once you get used to it!
Six of Crows is on my TBR though I doubt I’ll be able to read it any time soon!
Haha. It’s so good, but for some reason the first 100 pages were hard for me to get through. But after that I couldn’t put it down!
I loved Six of Crows! Most of the other books are new to me, thank you for the recommendations 🙂
Thanks for commenting!
I Capture the Castle was a book I started but never finished. It’s nice to see I’m not the only one who struggled with it.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
It’s really sweet if you get through the beginning. I’ve reread it and loved it, but the first time definitely took awhile for me.
I had a tough time at first with I Capture the Castle but love it now and even liked the movie (rare for me).
I’m also having trouble getting into Six of Crows. So I need to keep plowing through I guess.
I had a REALLY hard time with those first hundred pages. Then I stayed up late to finish the rest in a night. Once they are on the heist, I couldn’t put it down and liked it even more than the Grisha trilogy.
I definitely know that feeling of having a really hard time getting into a book, but pushing through and then all of a sudden, loving it. I like it when that happens! I’ve been interested in “We Were Liars” for awhile, but keep hearing good and bad about it.
Yeah there is a lot of love and hate for this book. I think it’s because it is so different from the author’s other books. I would definitely give it a try. In the beginning I was like “What is going on?” but I really enjoyed it by the end and have reread it several times now.
I have Judy Blume’s In The Unlikely Event in my ‘TBR’ pile, but have yet to read… I am not sure why that is as I’ve read many of her children’s books and young adult books.

It took me a long time to read that one too. I think it’s so long that it’s daunting, but once you get into it the story really moves.
I loved Six of Crows, glad to hear you enjoyed it eventually!

I eventually loved it. The beginning also could have just been my mood at the time. I just remember my friends kept asking if I finished and it took me forever to get through the beginning.
Well that’s good. Ah I always get that, my friends asking if I’m finished with a book and I say no because I’m such a slow reader!
I’m having that problem with Six of Crows right now. About 5 chapters in and I’m kinda bored? I’ll keep plugging away though… glad I’m not the only one with that book!

I would definitely keep reading. It picks up a lot!
I’ve seen History Is All You Left Me a couple of times now, and I still need to read it! I’ll just have to make sure I keep pushing through 🙂 We Were Liars, though, I just hated the whole way through… I wasn’t a fan of that writing at all.
Thanks for visiting my blog! 🙂
We Were Liars definitely elicited strong reactions from readers. People love that book, and people hate that book.
We Were Liars picks up SO MUCH by the end ❤ I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about that book, but I really loved it. Great list! 🙂
I agree. I like the whole book too after rereading it. I was just expecting something different, because I’d only read the Ruby Oliver books of E. Lockhart’s at that point.
I cannot explain to you how much I loved We Were Liars!! The story pulled me in right from the beginning BUT THE END!!! 😱 It left me shocked. I couldn’t control my tears when it was revealed that….you know…..her cousins…they….you know! 😞 GOD!! I totally did not see THAT coming….
